Getting a clean capture

  1. Use a dark pen on white paper

    A black or dark blue felt-tip or gel pen gives the strongest contrast. Avoid lined or textured paper.

  2. Photograph straight on

    Hold the phone parallel to the page near a window. Avoid your own shadow falling across the paper.

  3. Let the tool even it out

    “Even out shadows” estimates the paper brightness across the photo and divides it out, so a gradient from window to corner doesn’t turn grey.

Where to use it

Word and Google Docs. Insert the PNG and place it above your typed name; because the background is transparent, it sits naturally over lines.

PDF forms. Most PDF readers, including Adobe Acrobat and macOS Preview, let you add an image as a signature.

Email signatures. Keep it small, around 300 px wide, so it doesn’t get treated as an attachment.

Treat the PNG like a key: store it somewhere private and don’t post it publicly.

How do I remove the background from my signature?

Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, take a straight-on photo in good light, and drop it above. Shadows are evened out, the paper becomes transparent, and you can download a trimmed PNG to place in documents.

How do I make my signature a transparent PNG for Word or PDF?

Download the PNG from this tool, then in Word use Insert → Pictures and set the text wrapping to “In front of text”. In most PDF editors, add it as an image or as a signature stamp.

Can I make the ink blue or black?

Yes. Tick “Make the ink one solid colour” and choose black, dark blue or any colour. It also removes the uneven greys a phone photo gives to ballpoint ink.

Is it safe? My signature is sensitive.
