How to remove a background in Canva
Canva’s BG Remover works in one click but is part of its paid plans.
You’ll need: Canva Pro, Teams, or an eligible Education or Nonprofit account.
Select the photo
Click the image in your design.
Open Edit, then BG Remover
Click Edit (or Edit photo) on the toolbar and choose BG Remover.
Tidy up
Use the Erase and Restore brushes to correct the edges.
Download as PNG
Share → Download → PNG with “Transparent background” ticked (also a paid feature).
On a free Canva account
Cut the image out with QuickCut, then upload the PNG to Canva. Canva keeps the transparency of uploaded PNGs on any plan.
What Canva can’t do well
The remover and transparent downloads require a paid plan.

Is Canva’s background remover free?
No, BG Remover is included in Canva Pro, Teams and eligible Education and Nonprofit plans. Free users can upload a PNG they cut out elsewhere.
Why is my downloaded Canva PNG not transparent?
“Transparent background” must be ticked in the download dialog, which is a paid option. On free plans, any page background is included.
Is there a faster way than Canva?
